Family Photos - What to Wear
It's that time of year again when we're all scrambling to find outfits for the whole family that not only look great but also coordinate well—and that's no small feat! In this post, I’ll share some tips and tricks for choosing outfits that harmonize without being too matchy, while also respecting everyone’s individual style.
Tip #1: Moms, this one’s for you—start with yourself!
I know we usually put everyone else first, but this time, focus on picking an outfit for yourself that makes you feel confident. I recommend sticking with solid colors, as they make it easier to coordinate the rest of the family’s outfits. However, if you find a dress with a subtle print that you love (the key here is subtle for photos), go for it! I’ll guide you through coordinating around both solid and patterned looks.
Tip #2: Avoid matching everyone exactly.
Instead of going for identical outfits, use complementary colors and don’t be afraid to incorporate patterns. Just make sure everything flows together. This approach will help you avoid the awkwardness of those overly matched family photos.
Tip #3: Embrace Patterns with Confidence.
Don't shy away from mixing patterns! The key is to choose subtle designs that complement each other without clashing, and to ensure the colors work harmoniously to tie the whole outfit together.
Tip #4: Timeless over trendy.
Opt for classic styles that won’t look dated in a few years. This helps ensure your photos feel timeless and cherished for years to come.
Tip #5: Have fun!
Family photos are all about creating memories. Yes, they can be stressful—especially with little ones—but you’ll be so grateful to have them. Things won’t always go perfectly, but I hope this post and the style boards below will help ease some of the stress of finding the perfect outfits.
